Supporting Moms in Need: The Power of Prayer and Partnership at Obria

“You don’t realize how fortunate you are to have the support in your life that you have as a mom until you see other moms who don’t have that support.”

This reflection from Robin, Executive Director of Obria Medical Clinics in Lawrenceville, captures the essence of an organization committed to empowering mothers with the resources they need to thrive.

“Obria is here to provide women the support they need to be the moms they want to be,” said Robin. “We really try to look at whatever barriers they’re facing and knock those down.”

Its purpose is one World Peace Revival (WPR) is proud to support.

Founded with a vision to support women facing unplanned pregnancies and other life challenges, the services provided by Obria are comprehensive.

“We provide free and low-cost prenatal care. We’re the only agency in Gwinnett doing that,” Robin said. “For those who don’t qualify for Medicaid, we offer prenatal care for $1,300, spread over the course of their pregnancy.”

Additionally, Obria partners with Care Credit to offer flexible payment plans, ensuring no woman is turned away due to financial constraints.

“Many of our women also don’t have access to mental and behavioral health care,” she said. “We started by identifying women who scored high on the Edinburgh scale for postpartum depression prevention.”

Recognizing the higher rates of postpartum depression among women of color, Obria has incorporated a specialized education program as part of its Thrive program. With the support of a grant from WPR, Obria has expanded its mental health services, aiming to have a counselor available every hour they are open.

The partnership between World Peace Revival and Obria began when Robin met Clyde, WPR’s founder. The impact of the WPR grant has been transformative for Obria.

Robin proudly shares, “With this grant, we get to expand our mental health services and provide that access to care for all our moms who need it.”

This expansion includes a new 12,560 square foot facility, which will triple their current space and allow them to offer free and low-cost pediatrics, opening a maternity home and starting a fatherhood program.

Like WPR, prayer is also an integral part of Obria’s foundation.

Acting as Executive Director for the last nine years, Robin shares how she came to join the Obria team. “I think God completely led me to it, and I think he gave me six daughters to prepare me for leading a staff of predominantly women.” she chuckled.

Even before she served on the board and accepted the leadership role, Robin was called to volunteer.

“I just felt that if I was going to raise my girls to serve in the community and show the love of Christ, they needed to see me doing it outside the church,” she said.

After praying for opportunities to serve, she found an Obria volunteer recruitment newsletter in the mail, and the rest is history.

Prayer remains a key component of Obria’s daily operations.

“I think one of my daily prayers is wisdom, because there’s always things that I don’t necessarily always know how to handle,” she said. “We are constantly growing and changing, and I need wisdom to guide this organization.

“I couldn’t do what we do without it being bathed in prayer because we’re doing things that sometimes the enemy [Satan] doesn’t like. I want to have that protection around my clinic and around my staff. What we do here is hard, and we all need the wisdom and sustainability that comes through prayer.”

Obria offers numerous ways for the community to get involved.

“Whether it’s through homelessness prevention, education, mental health or medical support, there’s a piece of what we do that can resonate with people,” Robin says.

Robin encourages potential supporters to connect their passions with Obria’s mission: “When people ask, ‘What do you need?’ I ask, ‘What are you passionate about? How can what you love connect with what we do?’”
