Nourishing Communities Through Compassion
Feeding people and connecting communities—this is the heart of Satisfeed’s mission. The nonprofit is more than a food pantry; it’s a movement dedicated to changing lives, one meal at a time.
Meet Tim Turner, the driving force behind Satisfeed’s efforts. For Tim, it all started with a simple realization: hunger exists in our backyard, despite our perceived prosperity. “What I’ve come to learn, according to the 2024 study from Feeding America: there are over 3,800 counties and townships in the United States, and there is food insecurity, hunger or food deserts in every single precinct,” Tim shared.
Taking a closer look into Gwinnett County, a staggering 47,000 children struggle to secure their next meal. With a heart full of compassion and a desire to make a difference, Tim launched Satisfeed in Spring 2013.
What started as a one-man operation has since grown into a lifeline for thousands of individuals and families facing food insecurity. The organization delivers hunger relief to local families in need through a food co-op and weekend support programs.
Beginning as a humble mobile food pantry, Satisfeed has since evolved into something far greater—a vision to establish a free farmer’s market and distribution center, where individuals can access nutritious food with dignity and autonomy.
However, the journey toward making this vision a reality is not without its challenges. Satisfeed relies heavily on the support of the community to sustain its operations, with the cost of serving 400 families every Saturday amounting to $10,000. Despite these obstacles, Tim remains unwavering in his determination to make a difference.
Yet, through the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers, the organization continues to operate. Satisfeed also believes in the importance and power of prayer and recognizes its role in the nonprofit’s success.
“One day, we walked out to the back door of the building that we were operating out of, walked down the steps, and we looked at each other and said, ‘We need a container. These 19 refrigerators and freezers inside the building are just not cutting it,’” said Tim. “So we prayed right there, and we cried out to God that we need a container. The next day I went to my mailbox and the envelope from the Scott Hudgens Family Foundation contained a check for $10,000.”
